Too many medals…
If baseball were broken down Olympic-style into individual events you would see the 50 meters pitch and the 100 meter toss, and the 200 meter toss, followed by the fastball hitting event, and the curveball batting competition, then slider, etc.. As part of a team game these individual skills make sense and serve a larger purpose, but individual athletic skills showcased as individual athletic events look increasingly ridiculous and redundant, just like the All-Star home run hitting contest.
