Cha Ching, Postseason Bling & Economies for Sale…

Published by admin under Dear Diary

The Red Sox economy looks a little like the national economy. A few people at the top make gobs of money, we outspend our competitors to win, and the serfs below borrow to pay for it all. It looks good when we’re drinking champagne, but how will it look when things are not going so well? Let me guess. Ownership will decide to sell, “it’s been a great run”, and the new buyer will insist the government build a new stadium, “to compete with the Yankees”. Year of the Manny…

Published by admin under Dear Diary

This season is defined by the departure of Manny Ramirez. He will cast a shadow over the playoffs, and even the next few years. Do the Red Sox have enough without him? Probably not. Schilling, Merloni and others continue to allude to his bad behavior, but still, there is little hard evidence, just allusions? In hindsight, Kevin Millar and other free spirits in the clubhouse may have done what Red Sox management could not, keep their employee–the best right-handed hitter in Red Sox history– motivated and happy.
