Assuming that he’s clean, could it be that the secret to his success is a one-year contract? He wouldn’t like to admit it, and he has complained loudly about not getting a guaranteed multiyear deal, but he is producing and maybe the pressure and uncertainty is driving him? If it ain’t broke don’t fix it! At this point in his career, why not? Ortiz has made over $80 million, he’s got two rings, and David is still the face of the franchise.
