Finally some sensible news…
Ok, just to be cheeky but Wakefield retiring is the first sensible thing that has happened in this awful off-season. No one wanted to see Wakefield try and break the all-time Red Sox wins record, and surely Clemens and Cy Young are better names at the top of that list. Wakefield is a great guy, but painful to watch for the average fan. Not good tv. Apparantly he won a lot of games, but I never remember looking at his name in the paper on game day, scheduled pitchers, and thinking positive thoughts the way you do w/ Lester, Bucholtz, Beckett, etc..
